Interior Design on the Runway?

Interior Design on the Runway

From interior designs for fashionistas? No way!! - That's me talking behind my head. But when I came across this interior design article, that fascinated me.

Katrantzou Brings Interior Design to Life

Models became luxuriously decorated rooms in Mary Katrantzou spring collection.

Skirts turned into vintage fabric lampshades; swaths of silky fabric mimicked curtains as they flowed from the hips, giving structured dresses movement and creating a strong and surreal collection.

It all started with fashion photography, the Greek designer said after the show. But as she looked at the pictures, she realized that all of the women in them were in rooms. And the collection quickly became about “how to turn that on its head and put the room on the woman.”

Ms. Katrantzou, whose textiles and prints have won her accolades and landed her on the shortlist of several fashion awards, including the Swiss Textile Award and the Swarovski Emerging Talent Prize, used interior trims and layers of fabric and beads to gave her designs the look of high luxury.

Her prints, inspired by rooms and design pieces in “Architectural Digest,” gave the dresses a 3D illusion, creating shape and form that will flatter the curves of women’s bodies.

It was a beautiful and beautifully executed collection — one that Ms. Katrantzou said she had wanted to represent what her brand was about as she made her first solo appearance on the catwalk Sunday morning.

Already after the show, it was winning her the praise of the gaggle of fashion press who had come backstage to congratulate her.
